What is Convection Cooking and Its Advantages

Convection cooking is often used in modern ovens today. If you don’t have an oven yet, look here and see a bunch of catering equipment and supplies.

Convection cooking simply just brings the air flow into the conventional cooking. An integrated fan circulates the hot air around and across the food cooking the food evenly and all at the same time. Convection cooking cuts the cooking time by up to 35% than a conventional oven.

Convection oven is usually composed of 3 heating elements: top, bottom, and rear. As the oven pulls in outside air, it is heated immediately and circulated.

Meats and poultry will have an amazingly even cooking and perfect browning while retaining the food’s moisture. Baked foods will retain moist from the inside giving a flaky crust, yet very soft cakes.

When buying a convection oven, look for an oven that has a third heating element. Going for 2 heating element won’t give you the proper result you need.

How to Remove Gum from Your Hair Using Coconut Oil

I’ve been using coconut oil for other purposes besides cooking. I use virgin coconut oil for hair treatment instead of the expensive and artificial products that I had been using for years. In addition, I use a coconut oil moisturizer, and by that I mean I rub coconut oil on my skin – including my face, and my skin has never looked better.

A not-so-well-known use for coconut oil is for taking out gum from your hair.

When I was a little girl with long, wavy hair, my naughty boy classmates put gum in my hair just to see me cry. My mother had little patience with this, and simply cut off the hair that had gum. The result: I had layered hair way before it became fashionable again. It was pretty traumatic.

Anyway, I had to babysit my niece last week, and of course the unthinkable happened: she had gum on her hair. She was so upset and I got upset myself, because the childhood memory of my unevenly chopped hair came flooding back to me. After she had calmed down a bit, I went to the pantry to look for something to use to take out the gum. My eyes fell on a bottle of coconut oil, and since it works with so many other things, I thought I’d give it a try.

I put some coconut oil on the gum, and the hair that got stuck to it. I let it sit a little, and after a few minutes, it was able to take out the gum completely. Both my niece and I made happy, silly dance moves afterwards.

Coconut oil saved the day, and my niece’s hair as well.

Vintage Port: What Sets It Apart?

Finica Food Specialties Ltd.Vintage Port is in its own class of port wines. It is so special in fact that it makes up only around 2% of port wines produced. It is made from a blend of grapes that are all from the same vintage. While it is aged for several decades, this aging occurs in the bottle, after a mere 6 months to a year in the barrel without being oxidized (a select few makers will leave it in the barrel for as much as 2 years). Vintage port is aged at least 10 years if not decades more in the bottle. During this time it matures and becomes velvety smooth. When looking for a Port of this type, be sure not to confuse it with the “Late Bottled Vintage Port” which is another classification altogether and is usually only aged a few years. True vintage port matures beautifully with age, retaining its thick ruby color and texture as well as developing strong fruity tastes that continue to develop over countless decades.

Storing of Wine

Los Vascos wine is sold ready for drinking and it will be hard to ruin if you store it for a few months. Do not place the wine next to the central heating, cooker or a sunny window sill , though.

Light and extreme temperatures are things to avoid if you store wine for long-term. Some wines, like Los Vascos Chardonnay, are particularly sensitive to exposure to light over several months and the damage will be worse if the bottle is made of pale-coloured glass. The warmer the wine, the quicker it will age and high temperatures can spoil wine quite fast. Beware of storing wine in garages or out-buildings in winter when a very cold snap can bring temperatures down to say -4 degrees celsius or lower. Your wine will freeze, push up the corks and crack the bottles. An underground cellar is ideal with a fairly constant temperature of 10-12 degrees celsius. Bottles need to lie on their sides so that the cork stays damp and swollen and keeps out the air.
